Everything we make is handmade to order and fully bespoke. Unlike ready-made curtains, Material Things curtains are available in thousands of different fabrics, patterns, plains, florals and geometric prints from the finest fabric suppliers in the World, all of which are available to see in our fabulous fabric room – the largest choice of fabrics on the south coast. Our curtains are available with lining, interlining and many types of heading, from traditional pencil pleats and pinch pleats to more modern eyelets. Whatever the size of your window, we have a wide variety of options on tracks, poles and luxury fitted pelmets to suit, including everything from power assisted options to bespoke curved tracks. Our interior design team are on hand to help you create your vision, with a free home visit and design service adding that personal touch.

Every single aspect of your curtains are handmade, meaning we have a lot to do before we can fit your curtains! Firstly our experienced curtain fitter will visit your home for a second measure, to check the precise sizing on your windows. From there, once the designs have been checked and signed off, we will order all the components of your curtains from the various suppliers and ensure everything we need is available. Your materials and designs are then sent to our seamstresses, who will lovingly create your curtains with a combination of unrivalled skill and experience. Once the curtains are completed and passed by quality control, we will call you to arrange fitting at your next convenience. This process can take 4-6 weeks to be completed, but you will undoubtedly agree it is worth the wait!

Once you have chosen your fabrics, fittings, style and the design of your curtains the hard work is over and you are ready to place your order! When placing your order with one of our designers, we will politely request a 25%-50% deposit, depending on the product. The designer will give you a copy of your order, an estimated fitting date (subject to fabric availability) and they will send you fabric samples at your request. The balance of your order will be due before your curtains are fitted.

There is no charge to have one of our experienced curtain consultants will happily visit you at your home to discuss your requirements, and if you would like more help ask for our full interior design service. An invaluable knowledge of style, appropriate colour schemes and appropriate use of space are the foundations of designing a successful interior, the ability to convey a certain mood within a home is a skill our team know well and we are more than happy to share our knowledge and experience with you.

Yes definitely especially with curtains and roman blinds – flowers and stripes or checks can look great so long as the colours complement each other.

If you are having a hand made product It is always a good idea to use the best you can afford i.e interlined and hand pleated headings on floor length curtains definitely helps them to hang beautifully.
